Popular house musician DJ Shimza has lent a hand to people who were affected by a tornado that ripped through Tembisa earlier this week.

The area was rocked by a devastating tornado, leaving dozens of people injured and hundreds of homes destroyed.

While emergency services and task teams assessed the damage, DJ Shimza took to social media to offer his support to victims of the tragedy.

In a post on Wednesday, he called on fans and followers to join him in rebuilding some of the shacks that were destroyed in the tornado.

“Those of you who are available tomorrow, please can we meet at Boisantha in Tembisa tomorrow at 9am to go and help those who were affected yesterday, just helping them rebuild the shacks,” he wrote, while also encouraging those who were not available to spread the message.

He returned to Instagram on Thursday to post a picture of the devastation the group found.

“(These are) some of the homes affected by the tornado in Tembisa, out here helping where we can to help rebuild,” he wrote.

Other local celebs, including DJ Sbu and gospel singer Winnie Mashaba, have previously urged fans and followers to pray for those affected by the tornado.

A number of celebrities don't see what the hullabaloo is about the much publicised Project X parties. This comes after the public castigated the events and dubbed them hedonistic in nature, characterised by sex and drug use. They have voiced their thoughts on their social media pages defending the organisers of the events.

Emcee and event organiser Davidson 'DNG' Ngibuini dismissed 'social activists' for castigating the event. "Idle people are all over social media running their fingers about ‪#‎ProjectX‬! Hahaha...Like it's the 1st time the party's going down. Isn't that what house parties are nowadays anyway? And wait...Hold up...When did Kenyans get morals? I must have missed the memo. To Dero & Crew, get your money up!!! All we have are barking dogs and hypocrites! (sic)."

Radio presenter Ciru Muriuki wrote, "I just heard someone talking about that Project X party, saying that it must not be allowed to happen because Kenya "is a Christian country". Um. No. We may be the majority, but we don't live in a religious state. Also, where is all that Christian outrage when politicians steal, commit rape...and get away with it?"

The organisers have sent out a statement cancelling this weekend's event.

"To all our loyal party rockers, we would like to inform you to peacefully understand us on this cancellation step of this event due to the command from the law. Its very saddening that the media has portrayed the event 'Project X' in a manner that is wanting, branding the event as a sex party through the basis of one sentence 'No one goes back home a virgin' clearly shows how some media houses can be narrow minded and try to make a story in order to make an extra buck even when all details portray the event where young adults can meet up, socialise and have a good time."

It added, "The photos and captions used were for promotional use only, we fail to understand how we would widely market an event for guys to come and have sex. It's completely against the values we believe in. To the parents, we are deeply sorry that you had to view the event as an immoral and unethical abuse of our freedom to have fun, the event is based on guys socialising, having fun and new exposure to different people. We put up the charges at Sh500 so as to allow everyone from every background to have fun."

    Truck in transit

Police in South Africa have rescued fifty seven Malawian children from the hands of Malawian human traffickers.

The young Malawians who are between the ages of 11 and 21 are now at a place of safety in the rainbow nation.human-trafficking-1-140203c

According to reports, in the early hours of Tuesday, two police officers spotted a white “delivery” truck travelling at high speed in Rustenburg in South Africa.

In the front seats of the truck were the driver and two other people. When they were stopped they refused to answer questions related to what they were transporting and refused to open the back.

When officers forced open the back of the truck, two children fell to the ground.

Officers found 18 young Malawian girls and 39 boys inside the enclosed back, which had a makeshift window at the top. Undocumented and shaken – the group was immediately taken to a place of safety.

“They are well looked after and the Department of Social Development will do justice. Immediately after they were found, they were to be taken for assessments or treatments,” said acting national police commissioner, Khomotso Phahlane.

Details of their travel is still sketchy and authorities say they are investigating. It is unclear how long they had been on the road, how they crossed the border, what their intended destination was and exactly what they were trafficked for.

The driver and two passengers, who are all Malawians, were arrested.

“They were arrested for human trafficking. The suspects appeared briefly at the Rustenburg regional magistrate’s court on Tuesday – their case has been postponed to 13 September 2016 – facing 57 counts of human trafficking,” said Phahlane.

South African authorities have since disclosed that they are working with Malawian officials in their investigations.

An outspoken AKA took to Twitter this week to shade local rappers who have chosen to keep quiet on political issues, saying that they need to speak out because their bars “don’t mean sh*t.”
