THERE is still no clarity on when the office of the black economic empowerment acting commissioner will begin functioning, three months after Trade and Industry Minister Rob Davies appointed Zodwa Ntuli to the position.

The office of Ms Ntuli, a former deputy director-general in the department, was supposed to have been set up last year.

Department spokesman Charles Mnisi said on Friday that it should be running next year after issues, including its independence, have been clarified

Ms Ntuli, who addressed stakeholders on Friday, said the commission had been set up as a centre that could play an oversight role and monitor BEE compliance.

Black Management Forum president Mncane Mthunzi said: "She’s familiar with the processes and legislation.
