George Mayor Charles Standers has been suspended from the DA caucus.

The decision to suspend the mayor was taken today 26 July,  by the George Council's DA caucus, following a request to the party's Federal Executive Committee a month ago to remove Standers as Mayor of George.

According to DA Chief Whip Flip de Swardt the decision was unanimous. Although no official answer has yet been received from the DA's Federal Legal Commission, with whom the request currently lays, the caucus decided to continue with Standers's suspension in terms of the federal constitution.

Standers will remain the Mayor of George until the election on 3 August has been proclaimed free and fair by the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC).

His suspension from caucus meetings is also valid after the election, until a decision has been taken by the Federal Legal Committee on his future with the party.
