The party leader said they wanted ‘action on white corruption’ and demanded to see Public Protector Thuli Madonsela.

There was drama at the public protector’s office in Pretoria today when Black First, Land First (BLF) leader Andile Mngxitama and his supporters were arrested when they stormed the building.

They demanded to see Public Protector Thuli Madonsela.

Security officials told them Madonsela was in Johannesburg doing charity work in honour of Nelson Mandela.

BLF members would have none of that and proceeded to occupy one of the offices.

Armed police had to be called when the party members refused to leave without being given an audience with Madonsela. There was a police helicopter flying overhead at the building.

Mngixitama and about 22 supporters were arrested for entering the office illegally. Staff at the public protector’s office were forced to vacate the building.

Inside, Mngitixama told police there was no need to carry guns.

“There is no violence,” he said. “We are just want a meeting with the public protector.”

In response, one of the police officers asked if they had made an appointment.

Mngixitama told The Citizen that they wanted to see Madonsela because she had failed to investigate “state capture by white capital” and “white capital corruption amounting to R26 billion”.

“We have written letters to her,” he said. “She has not responded.”

Mngixitama said that what they had noted was that Madonsela was prioritising complaints brought by the DA.

“They don’t even respond to our emails,” said Mngixitama. “We decided let us come and meet her.”

Mngixitama accused Madonsela of protecting white capital.

“This is our problem,” he said. “She is priotising all the investigations against black people.

“Now she has got more money for Nkandla, but she does not have money to deal with white capital corruption.”

Mngxitama says he was arrested for “carrying out his  at the public protector’s office”.

“BLF members arrested for carrying out the  at the public protector’s office. We demand action on white corruption,” he tweeted.
