JOHANNESBURG - South African DJ Black Coffee accepted an historic award on Saturday evening when he was named BET Best International Act: Africa.

Black Coffee, born Nkosinathi Maphumulo, beat off competition from seven other African artist to win the accolade in Los Angeles.

He also snatched the album of the year award for " Pieces of Me" at the South African Music Awards in early June.

To celebrate the achievements of the local star, we'll recap five of his greatest hits.

5. Stimela (Black Coffee Remix) - Black Coffee 

Black Coffee's debut self-titled album was launched by this remixed classic originally done by Hugh Masekela in 1972. The hit song helped Black Coffee achieve enough airplay to snag the Best Urban Dance Album at the 2006 MTN SAMAs.

4. Gardens of Eden - Black Coffee ft Zonke

This hit song from the 2011 "Home Brewed" album came at a time when the DJ scooped multiple awards at the SAMAs and Metro FM Awards. Black Coffee was inducted in the Guinness Book of World Records when he played for 60 hours non-stop in Soweto. The hit song helped secure Coffee’s place as one to watch in the international dance scene.

3. You Rock My World - Black Coffee ft Soulstar

One of Coffee's biggest hits, bringing crossover appeal to his Africa Rising album, which won the Best Dance Album award at the SAMAs in 2013.

2. Superman - Black Coffee ft Bucie

Named by Canadian rapper Drake as one of his favourite songs in 2015, Superman was a huge hit for the multi-awarding winning artist.

1. We Dance Again - Black Coffee ft Nakhane Toure

Coffee's most recent smash hit made waves all over the world, topping charts locally by September 2015.

The song is became the centre of a dance video challenge on Instagram that's went viral internationally.

The challenge featured thousands of participants including politicians and celebrities.
