What do you when some people show you nothing but hate? When it looks like the public, and the tabloids are out to get you? You know, when every week, someone has something bad to say about you?

Well, if you're strong enough, you'll live, survive another day and use that negativity as a fuel to success. That's exactly what some celebrities are doing and they're proving that there really isn't such a thing as bad publicity. Well, if you at least know how to use it to your advantage.

Here are a few examples:

Kelly Khumalo

She has heard and seen it all. From being hooked on drugs, to being involved in toxic relationships, the singer has had her fair share of drama. It doesn't help that she's in the public eye - every move she makes is met with public scrutiny. In 2014, after her boyfriend, Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper, Senzo Meyiwa, was shot and killed at her home in Vosloorus, East of Johannesburg, Kelly became a hot topic.

She was called a homewrecker (Senzo was married), some blamed her for the late footballer's death, and some people even threatened to kill her. However, this didn't stop her from moving on with her life.

In an interview with Nimrod Nkosi last year, Kelly said about negative publicity: "So many things have been written wrongly about me that I have made peace with it. Again, a journalist will write based on how they feel at that particular time - about themselves, their situation. I've become that person ukuthi 'okay, we want to sell papers, who do we go for'? Some stories would be driven to a point where 'Kelly must look like that'."

These days, the star is doing well for herself. She continues to make music and those gigs just keep pilling up. So basically, Kelly's star is still shinning, despite all the drama.

Khanyi Mbau

Now Khanyi is the perfect example of turning your life around. The TV presenter and actress, who was married to an older man, Mandla Mthembu (who was rich at the time), lived a life that many dreamed of. She had the best cars, expensive clothes, attended the best events and caused a lot of envy.

However, her lifestyle received a lot of criticism and she was labelled as a gold digger and all sorts of names.

As you know, with fame, comes a lot of negativity.

In an interview with , Khanyi said about rumours. "Lots of things about me have been published in the media including my relationship with Mandla (Mthembu), our divorce and naked pictures of me were also leaked for everyone to see. I try to keep my head high. Over 40 million South African citizens breathe and that never makes news. This reminds me how special I am, I stand out from the crowd. Besides, God has given me a strong support system. Amen."

These days, Khanyi is making her own money. Her talk e.tv talk show Katch it with Khanyi was a great success, and she's now ready for .

Bonang Matheba

Where do we even start? Bonang has had quite a rough time in the industry. Although she's doing extremely well in her career, her private life tends be in the spotlight.

Who can forget her messy breakup with DJ Euphonik? Or that time when her relationship (although unconfirmed) with D'Banj ended? She found herself trending on social media, with people even going as far as saying that she "can't keep a man". That's harsh.

Things got even worse after her relationship with AKA surfaced. Again, Bonang found herself in the middle of controversy because it was revealed that AKA cheated on his then girlfriend, DJ Zinhle, with the Top Billing presenter. A lot of insults were thrown her way.

However, as we've all seen, she hasn't let any of that bring her down. In a recent interview with Marie Claire magazine, Bonang said about negative comments: “I have mastered the art of silence. I am not combative. I don’t enjoy arguments. I don’t like to fight. I am a very peaceful soul.”

She also mentioned that she has gone through the worst pain, adding: "An ex-boyfriend having a child with someone else during our relationship. Being beaten. Being cheated on. Being embarrassed on social media numerous times. Everything you can imagine and then some more."

Instead of losing focus, Bonang has continued to rise to the top. She has a number of TV jobs, a successful radio show and an endorsement deal with an international beauty brand.

As Beyoncé says in her hit track, Formation: "Always stay gracious, best revenge is your paper."
